Hempitecture is a U.S. cleantech manufacturer specializing in hemp-based insulation and building materials, including HempWool® batts and HempCrete®, designed to improve energy efficiency, indoor air quality, and carbon performance in buildings. Since its founding in 2018 by Matthew “Mattie” Mead and Tommy Gibbons in Ketchum, Idaho, Hempitecture has delivered hemp lime solutions to over 20 projects and, in 2024, opened its 33,000 ft² nonwoven manufacturing facility in Jerome, Idaho, for domestic insulation production. The company was awarded over $8.4 million in U.S. Department of Energy funding to scale operations, including a major expansion into Tennessee, where a second production facility is in development. These efforts support Hempitecture’s entry into new sectors such as automotive nonwovens and sustainable packaging. With ASTM E84-certified, fire-rated hemp insulation and national lab validations from DOE, ORNL, and Argonne, Hempitecture is scaling rapidly within a regional supply chain and maintains active engagement in national sustainability initiatives.
