Calmura Natural Walls Inc.

Calmura Natural Walls Inc. is a Vancouver-based social venture founded in 2016 by Monty Chong‑Walden and Dr. Peter Renke. Inspired by European hemp-lime (hempcrete) construction techniques, Calmura initially explored hemp hurd-based mixes before developing a patented biocomposite wall system that uses locally sourced waste wood chips combined with lime and clay. Their factory-made panels and foamed infill create a monolithic, breathable envelope around wood-frame buildings—replacing multi-layer wall assemblies with a fire-, mold-, pest-, and earthquake-resistant system that also sequesters carbon. Prototyped at FPInnovations–UBC and demonstrated through pilot projects like the SUS Studio, Calmura’s innovations have earned international recognition from the CleanTech Open, The Index Project, and others.
